AP Guv asks officials to plan all-round development of tribals

Hyderabad, Nov 16 (PTI) Government officials should focus on creation of livelihoods and skill development through an integrated action plan for all-round development of the tribals in the State, Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan said here today. The Governor was briefed by special chief secretary Tribal Welfare A K Tigidi and other senior officials on the implementation of various tribal welfare activities in the State at Raj Bhavan today, an official release said.

Several innovative schemes to attract the tribal children towards schooling have been taken up in Adilabad, Visakhapatnam and other areas, the officials said. Hundred per cent solar electrification was provided for all schools constructed in tribal areas, they said. Elaborate efforts are being made to provide clean and safe drinking water even in the interior tribal villages and individual toilets were constructed and handed over to the tribals, they said. Apart from this, a major concern raised by all the heads of the department is about the vacancies and filling up of officers and staff in all tribal areas, the release said. The Governor has assured the officials that all help and support would be extended from the government and appreciated their efforts in tribal development, it said. He exhorted that the senior officers should play a critical role through leadership and visible commitment. He told them to take stern action against recalcitrant functionaries as per conduct rules. The practice of revoking officers under suspension and sending them to tribal areas should stop, he added. The Governor has a special role towards tribal welfare as mandated under Fifth schedule of the Constitution, the release added.
