HYDERABAD: For middle-aged Kausalya, a poor Banjara woman, the New Year’s Day was like a dream. She had the rare privilege of celebrating the day with none other than Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. It’s not just spending time with the VVIP, but she had actually cooked food for the chief minister and even fed him by hand.
Kausalya served dal and jowar roti to the chief minister. Overcome by excitement and emotion, the Banjara woman was seen shaking while feeding the chief minister with her own hands.
The chief minister visited the slums in the Banjara Colony, Ambedkar Nagar Basthi, Ranganayukulanagar colony and Sudheer Kumar Colony in Hayathnagar mandal and celebrated the New Year’s Day with them.
Kiran Kumar Reddy went into the thatched house of Kausalya along with some ministers and comfortably settled on the floor along with some women of the locality who gathered there.
During the interaction with the chief minister, the women complained that their slums lacked basic amenities like pucca roads, water and drainage lines. He assured them that their problems would be solved as early as possible.
When Kiran Kumar Reddy asked whether they had any other problems, Kausalya told him that they had two educated children - son D Venkatesham, who completed his MBA, and daughter Sunita, a B.Com graduate - who had been struggling to get suitable jobs. She urged the chief minister to help them find employment.
She said they were finding it difficult to make both ends meet with their meagre family earning. She worked as a daily wage labourer while her husband D Dhanvat was an auto driver. They migrated from Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district some 20 years ago. The chief minister assured them of suitable jobs and directed the officials to note down the details.
